I ncastonata tra le alte pareti bianche della ex cava, oggi divenuta palestra di roccia per alpinisti, e delle falesie tutelate dal Parco Naturale di Duino, la baia di Sistiana apre una breccia nel calcareo afaccio sul mare dell’altipiano carsico. Un tempo rinomato luogo di villeggiatura austroungarico, ha mantenuto la propria vocazione balneare e ofre la possibilità di scegliere tra curati stabilimenti privati o spiagge libere, caratterizzate da piccoli ciottoli adatti anche ai più piccoli [43]. La baia è accessibile in macchina o via mare grazie ai numerosi moli di attracco per imbarcazioni da diporto. Non mancano chioschi e discoteche, ristorantini e locali in riva al mare che attirano in questa verde e assieme rocciosa insenatura una variegata umanità. Dal bagnante tranquillo con famiglia al giovane tufatore spericolato, dallo sportivo al buongustaio, dal romantico camminatore meravigliato di fronte allo splendido scenario naturale all’amante della movida notturna e del divertimento, nessuno rimane deluso.

Durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, in virtù della sua strategica posizione protetta e nascosta, la baia servì da base militare per i Molch, sommergibili tascabili tedeschi, nascosti in una serie di gallerie scavate nella roccia. Uno di questi piccoli sottomarini ancora giace sui fondali della baia mentre una altro esemplare è conservato nel Civico Museo di guerra per la pace “Diego de Henriquez”.

During the Second World War, by virtue of its strategic, protected and hidden position the bay served as a military base for German miniature submarines called Molch, hidden in a series of tunnels cut into the rock. One of these small submarines is still lying on the seabed of the bay while another is on display in the Civic Museum of War and Peace (Civico Museo di Guerra per la Pace) “Diego de Henriquez”.

Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs diente die Bucht dank der strategischen, geschützten und versteckten Lage als Militärbasis für die deutschen Kleinst-U-Boote mit dem Namen Molch. Diese wurden in einigen in den Felsen gegrabenen Gängen verstekt. Eines dieser kleinen U-Boote liegt heute noch auf dem Meeresgrund der Bucht, während sich ein anderes Exemplar im städtischen Kriegsmuseum für den Frieden “Diego de Henriquez“ befndet.

Sistiana opens up a breach in the limestone wall facing the sea at the edge of the Carso plateau. Once a renowned Hungarian resort, Sistiana has retained its vocation as a seaside resort and ofers the opportunity to choose between up-market bathing establishments with private beaches and free-access, pebble beaches which are great for children as well [43]. The bay is accessible by car or by boat thanks to the many jetties for mooring pleasure craft. There are kiosks and discos, restaurants and beach clubs which attract a wide cross-section of society to this rocky cove. From the careful swimmer with a young family to the carefree young diver, from the sportsman to the bon vivant, from the lover of a romantic walk among the splendors of nature to those dedicated to a frenetic night-life, no-one will be left disappointed.

U mgeben von den hohen weißen Felswänden des ehemaligen Steinbruchs, der heute ein Kletterparadies für Bergsteiger darstellt, und den Steilhängen des Naturparks von Duino liegt die Bucht von Sistiana unter der Hochebene des Karstes. Früher war es ein renommierter Urlaubsort für Touristen aus Österreich-Ungarn und auch heute folgt die Bucht ihrer Berufung und

bietet die Möglichkeit, zwischen gepfegten Privatstrandbädern und freien Kiesstränden zu wählen [43], die auch für die Kleinsten geeignet sind. Die Bucht kann mit dem Auto und dank der zahlreichen Ankerplätze auch mit dem Schif erreicht werden. Auch Kioske und Diskotheken sind vor Ort, sowie kleine Restaurants und Lokale am Meeresufer, die in dieser grünen und zugleich felsigen Bucht verschiedenste Leute anziehen: vom ruhigen Strandgänger mit Familie bis zum jungen waghalsigenWasserspringer, vom Sportler bis zum Feinschmecker, vom romantischen Spaziergänger bis zum Liebhaber des Nachtlebens und der Unterhaltung – hier wird niemand enttäuscht.
